The U.S. is Seeing a Revival of Arcade Gaming at Bars & Restaurants

The advent of at-home gaming consoles ended the golden age of arcades in the mid-90’s. Now, more than two decades after most arcades closed their doors, the gaming industry is seeing a resurgence. Which in turn the concept of adding arcade games to bars and restaurants has been great for businesses across the country.

In 2004, Barcade opened its doors in Brooklyn and now has seven locations. Specializing in craft beers and vintage arcade games, Barcade quickly became a trendy hang out for locals. Business is also booming for other companies, such as Emporium Arcade Bar in Chicago and Button Mash in Los Angeles.

It has seen an especially diverse crowd since they introduced games into the bar. According to co-owner Jordan Weiss, the business is just as likely to throw a birthday party for a seven-year-old as for a 40-year-old.

Having access to arcade games and especially vintage games draws customers of all ages from Gen-Xers to Millennials, expanding patron demographics. Instead of catering to a specific clientele with the typical amenities, bars and restaurants can increase profit margin by installing arcade games such as pinball machines, coin-operated pool tables and air hockey games, dart boards and more.
